She established the charitable trust in2005 in Greenhithe, Auckland, New Zealand, initially running it out of her garage. Dame Julie currently serves as the CEO of KidsCan. The organization focuses on delivering crucial support such as food, jackets, shoes, and health products to help children overcome barriers to learning and participate fully in their education. Recently, KidsCan reported a significant increase in demand for food, delivering 148.7tonnes to partner schools in Term 1 2026,marking an 11 percent rise from the previous year, highlighting the growing need for their services as more children face hardship.
